Meetings/2010-11-08
This meeting is to discuss the large amount of development that has happened since our last meeting.
Agenda
- Task development
- Progress on eg. system temperature recalculation, WCS compliance, convenience tasks
- Recent experiences
- Experiences with CABB reduction re: polarisation, wideband etc. and suggestions for improvements.
- Future of Miriad
- There has been talk of a move towards CASA for certain reduction processes. We will discuss what role Miriad will/might have in the future.
- AOB
- Anything else of note.
Minutes
- CABB systemps can be affected by RFI and/or problem channels, can't currently fix this problem
- systemps most important when imaging
- ATLOD can now revert to raw counts instead of online-calculated tsys, and can then recalculate after flux calibration with attsys before imaging
- recalculation of XY phases on reference antenna is still troublesome
- perhaps get online calculations to be more robust to interference to mitigate this problem
- pgflag bug reports have been acted upon and fixed
- mirflag binary and doc files can just be "dropped in" to the correct places in Miriad tree and will hence be distributed in standard distribution
- would be useful if mirflag can work with phases, Emil thinks this is possible
- polarisation with CABB:
- imrm can't work with cubes, would be handy if it could work
- Dave finds that at 6cm over 2 GHz, the leakages change across the band, but impact of this is uncertain
- it may be desirable for gp tasks to be transferred to mf tasks, but how much effort should be invested in this?
- working panel will deliberate on questions re: Miriad's future
- write a discussion paper for the next ATUC meeting
- astro group will be consulted after 23rd November
- Miriad is becoming a CABB calibration engine, and less useful for wideband imaging
- CASA has plenty of issues still, needs testing and debugging
- ASKAPsoft may also be useful, but needs to be accessible
Participants
- Mark Wieringa
- Vince McIntyre?
- Phil Edwards
- Dave McConnell?
- Emil Lenc
- Jamie Stevens
