Implement median baselining

Description

I've written a function to do median baselining, but I don't know how well it works.

Check it out again, and make it available for the next release. Should just need an extra input parameter to switch on the type of baselining.

Type: defect → enhancement

Largely implemented in [1259] and [1260]. Looks to work alright, actually!

Need to document this and the associated parmaeters.
