Expected timing of relevant events

Event Date Implications
CABB stage 1 Oct-Nov 2007 Two element interferometer equipped; CABB data available
ATCA shutdown starts not before Apr 2008
Commissioning complete not before July 2008 miriad Stage 1 needed for astronomy.
1-3 GHz receivers complete Mar 2009 Very wide fractional bandwidths possible
4-12 GHz receivers complete June 2009

The above estimates were provided on 17 Aug 2007.

Stage Description
1 Basic handling of CABB data. Strong frequency dependencies ignored.
2 Use of wide "continuum" bands to calibrate zoom bands. Strong frequency dependency handled using the 'divide and conquer' approach; that is, split up the 2 GHz CABB band into a number of sub-bands for which the existing calibration tasks are adequate. Continuum images will be sums of deconvolved images from the sub-bands, limiting the image quality.
3 Data flagging on the basis of autocorrelations; single dish analysis modes. Broad bands and data volume is expected to make automatic flagging highly desirable, or essential.
4 Wide bands handled explicitly: calibration and imaging tasks become frequency dependent, removing the limitations imposed by the technique used in stage 2.
5 New algorithms for high-dynamic range imaging and polarimetry
