After the GUI install, edit

/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.4/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ma

tplotlib/mpl-data/matplotlibrc

Replace "WxAgg" with "TkAgg"

Re-login to get the new system configuration (or just start a new xterm). Othewise the old version of python is used.

   tar zxf ipython-0.7.2.tar.gz
   cd ipython-0.7.2
   sudo python setup.py install

e) run

   ipython -pylab

to see if everything is working. This will generate font warnings - ignore these.
